LITTLE ROCK (KFSM) – An Arkansas senator has filed a bill to amend the Arkansas Clean Indoor Air Act of 2006 to include electronic cigarettes.

Sen. Larry Teague, D-Nashville, filed the bill, also known as SB 447, on Wednesday (Feb. 18), according to legislative records.

The bill changes the term “tobacco” to include cigars, cigarettes, pipes and e-cigarettes in already-existing Arkansas law concerning public smoking in medical facilities. It also amends language in the Arkansas Clean Indoor Air Act of 2006 to include e-cigarettes under the definition of “smoking,” which the law bans in most public indoor areas.

If passed, the bill would also change the definition of “smoking” in the Arkansas Protection from Secondhand Smoke for Children Act of 2006 to include e-cigarettes.

SB 447 was referred to the Arkansas Senate Committee on Public health, Welfare and Labor, legislative records state.
