After a chilly and raw day on Friday our attention turns to the weekend and the numerous disturbances and cold fronts that will be sweeping across the area.
Rain with a few claps of thunder will be possible Friday night into Saturday morning with rainfall totals nearing 1/2″ to 1″ across much of the area.
Saturday afternoon looks pleasant with temperatures warming into the 40s and even 50s with spotty sunshine in the afternoon. However, yet another cold front will move across the area on Saturday night into Sunday morning bringing back the chill.
Sunday morning will start off cloudy and cold in the wake of the front. A weak disturbance will move into the area late on Sunday and likely generate some snow across the area. While the totals will be no where near the last winter storm, we may very well see up to 1″ with some higher amounts in Ouachitas. This could cause travel concerns and possible school cancellations for Monday of the upcoming week.
Another, possibly stronger, winter storm could develop late week into the first weekend of March but details on timing and time remain unclear. Certainly something to watch.
Here’s a look at what to expect this weekend:
Rain will still be in the area on Saturday morning with the heaviest slowly transitioning to the southeast.
By Noon, we’ll see overcast skies with rain moving out of the area.
Rain totals on average will be around 1/2″ to 1″ with higher amounts to the east of us.
On Saturday evening, expect the skies to become partly cloudy, with a little bit of sunshine and highs expected to be in the 40s and 50s.
Sunday will be cold with the 2nd system arriving sometime after 6pm and more than likely after 8pm. This one is taking a slightly more southerly track which could cause some higher snow totals in the Ouachitas.
Forecast accumulations are in the 1″ range with lesser amounts to the north. This is far short of ‘Winter Storm Warning’ criteria but will likely result in a ‘Winter Weather Advisory’ for at least some parts of the area.
Due to the system arriving after dark with temperatures in the 20s, it’s possible that roads will be slick and slow again to start Monday. School closings are also possible.
