FORT SMITH (KFSM)- Athletes from all over the region participated in an indoor triathlon Saturday (Feb. 21).

Runners, swimmers and bikers packed out the Marvin Altman Fitness Center in Fort Smith.

Participants took part in a 500 yard swim, eight mile bike and three mile run.

This was the 14th time the event has been held.

Event director Bob Harper said the turnout gives the River Valley economy a big boost.

“We have people spending the night in hotels,” Harper said. “All the sponsors on the back of or t-shirts, hopefully the people are going to visit them and thank them for sponsoring our race.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Gregory Kistler Treatment Center.

Harper said the event raised about $3,000.
