FORT SMITH (KFSM) – The Fort Smith Police Department has launched a new campaign, set to target red light runners.

“Operation Seeing Red” started up earlier this week. Officers will be monitoring intersections that typically experience the highest number of accidents, specifically watching for those who choose to disobey traffic signals.

The Fort Smith Police Department is hoping to send a clear message to drivers– If you are caught running a red light, you will get a ticket.

Officers will be keeping a close eye on the following intersections for this violation:

  • Rogers Ave. and S. 74th St.
  • Phoenix Ave. and Old Greenwood Rd.
  • Rogers Ave. and Free Ferry Rd.
  • Rogers Ave. and Waldron Rd.
  • Towson Ave. and Phoenix Ave.
  • Jenny Lind and Zero St.
  • N. 11th and N. “B” St.

These are just a few of the stoplights around town being monitored. Sergeant Greg Copeland, FSPD Traffic Sergeant, says that if you are observed running a red light, even if it’s not at one of the listed intersections, you will be cited.

The effort will last for three weeks and will be a “No Tolerance” campaign.
