FORT SMITH (KFSM) – A Fort Smith man was sentenced on Feb. 25 to more than 10 years for distributing meth, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas Conner Eldridge.

Joe Gordon, 30, was sentenced to 130 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, officials said.

“Our office remains steadfast in our commitment to rid our communities of those who choose to participate in the trafficking of illegal narcotics,” Eldridge said. “As a career offender, this defendant’s actions displayed a lack of respect for law enforcement and his fellow citizens.  His history of committing crimes merited the lengthy sentence that he received, and his removal from our community will make the Western District of Arkansas a safer place.”

Court records state that on May 29, 2014, officers with the Fort Smith Police Department arranged for a controlled drug transaction with Gordon. During the controlled buy, Gordon sold meth to authorities, records state.

According to the release, Gordon had two prior felony convictions relating to drugs before his most recent arrest, making him a career offender. He pleaded guilty to a charge of distribution of meth on Oct. 16, 2014, Eldridge said.
