SPRINGDALE (KFSM) – The Springdale Police Department arrested a man accused of attacking a 13-year-old girl while she walked home from school, according to a news release.

Julian Rivera, 20, was booked into the Washington County Detention Center on Feb. 25 at 11:45 p.m., according to jail records. Those same records also state he faces charges of second-degree sexual assault, kidnapping, sexual indecency with a child and harassment.

On Feb. 24 at 4 p.m., Springdale police were sent to the area of Tolleson Loop for a possible juvenile assault case, the release states. After officers arrived, they spoke with a 13-year-old girl who said she had been dropped off by school bus and was walking home when she saw she was being followed, police said.

The man following eventually sped up and grabbed her, putting her in a headlock, according to police. She said she tried to get away, but the man reached down and touched her inappropriately, the release states. He grabbed her hair and tried to pull her into an alley between two duplexes, but she got away and ran home to call the police, according to authorities.

She told police she had seen a suspicious man in a black Chevrolet Cobalt in the area prior to her attack, the release states. Detectives started investigating, and they were led to Rivera as a suspect, the release states. The victim was able to successfully identify him from a photo lineup as the man who assaulted her, police said.

According to detectives, older reports were eventually connected to Rivera because despite having varying circumstances, they all had a similar suspect description.

“Each individual older report had very little detail to follow up on. However, based on some solid detective work, we were able to look at the totality of cases and tie small details together which led to Rivera,” the release states.

On Feb. 25, Rivera was taken into custody. Anyone with information on this case or a similar incident is asked to contact the Springdale Police Department at 479-751-4542.

Rivera’s bond has been set at $100,000, and his next hearing is scheduled for Friday (Feb. 27) at 7:45 a.m., according to jail records.
