SPRINGDALE (KFSM) -Following an incident where a Springdale man sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl on her walk home from the bus stop, Springdale school officials said they do have policies in place to report suspicious activity.

Transportation Director Dana Samples said if a rider is uncomfortable getting off the bus, the bus driver will take them straight back to school.

"We take them back to the safe place and make sure that if parents have to go get them, that's quite alright because we want that child to be safe," Samples said.

He said they don't always have an option to drop a student off at their front door. He said often they are dropping 10-20 students off at a time at a large neighborhood or apartment complex.

"In at all times, getting off of a school bus and getting on a school bus, there’s safety in numbers," Samples said.

Springdale school officials said they run over 125 routes daily, transporting 16,000 students to and from schools.
