FORT SMITH (KFSM) – Arkansas Valley Habitat for Humanity is hosting students from five colleges and universities during their spring break weeks who will help build homes for two deserving River Valley families in need.
Over 100 students are coming to Fort Smith from colleges and universities across the country to be part of the Habitat for Humanity’s national alternative spring break program, Collegiate Challenge.
This all kicks off today (Mar. 2nd) starting with the team from Sacred Heart University, who will be starting the 94th Habitat home build for the area. The build sites are two side-by-side lots located on South U Street. Each week, new teams will be arriving to take over where the last team left off.
The teams scheduled for Collegiate Challenge 2015 are as follows:
- March 2-6: Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT
- March 9-13: Georgetown University, Washington D.C. March 9-13: Boston University, Boston, MA
- March 16-20: University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, MO
- March 23-27: University of Missouri – Kansas City, MO
In the past 25 years, more than 205,000 students have spent their spring breaks volunteering across the country through Habitat for Humanity’s Collegiate Challenge program, donating more than $20 million to Habitat affiliates.
Arkansas Valley Habitat for Humanity has built 93 homes in Sebastian and Crawford Counties since opening in 1989. This year, the affiliate will celebrate their 25th year of operation, and is on track to build their 100th home next year.
