ROGERS (KFSM) –  Daylight saving time to most people means changing their clocks, but Rogers fire officials said it is also a good reminder to change the batteries in your smoke detector.

Battalion Chief Cliff Thompson said the battery life for most older model smoke detectors is around six months. He said if you don’t feel comfortable changing the batteries in your smoke alarm, Rogers firefighters will gladly do it for you.

“If you can purchase the batteries we will come out and put them in for you if that’s what needs to be done, or we can also bring batteries and replace them for you, if that’s what the need is, the main thing is that they’re up and they’re operational that’s what our focus is,” Thompson said.

He said the department gives away free smoke detectors every year to Rogers residents. Thompson said the alarms they give out have a 10 year battery life.

If you want a free smoke detector, Thompson said to contact the Rogers Fire Department by phone or online.
