FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - The "explosive device" that the Bentonville Bomb Squad responded to at the Washington County Courthouse on Monday (March 9) turned out to be a piece of PVC pipe that fell off a truck, police say.
A bailiff found the piece of pipe at East Spring Street and North College Avenue. It had construction documents on it, according to police.
Bomb squad technicians safely detonated the pipe, and a loud explosion was heard around 1:19 p.m.
Several streets around the courthouse were closed off, including North College Avenue, which was shut down. Traffic was redirected, deputies said.
