BENTONVILLE (KFSM) – A 17-year-old Bentonville student was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after being hit by a school bus Friday morning (March 13), according to Director of Communications for Bentonville Schools Paul Stolt.

Police said the male teen was walking west crossing Southeast J Street near Southeast 18th Street.

“The student crossed the roadway of Southeast J Street by running in-between northbound traffic that was stopped on Southeast J Street at the intersection of Southeast J Street and Southeast 18th Street. This northbound traffic consisted of several school buses,” police said.

The school bus involved in the accident with the student had just made a right turn from Southeast 18th Street to travel south on Southeast J Street, according to a news release from the Bentonville Police Department.

“The student crossed between the aforementioned school buses and entered the southbound lane of Southeast J Street and collided with the left side of the southbound school bus,” the release states.

The student sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, according to police.

Other students were on the bus at the time of the accident, but were not injured, according to Stolt.

Bentonville Police are investigating.

The school district said it is implementing its standard protocol and interviewing the bus driver.
