Fayetteville Pulls Upset To Win 7A Girls Crown

Lady Bulldogs got six 3-pointers from Sydney Crockett as they capture 7A state championship

HOT SPRINGS (KFSM) - It was supposed to be the perfect ending to a magical two year run for Jordan Danberry and the Conway Lady Wampus Cats.

Fayetteville had other ideas.

Sydney Crockett hit six 3-pointers and the Lady Bulldogs controlled the defending 7A champions throughout as Fayetteville posted the 80-65 win to claim the 7A state title at the Bank of the Ozarks Arena.

Crockett finished with 23 points and was named the game's most valuable player.

The title is Fayetteville's first since 2011.

Danberry was named the Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year for the second straight season earlier this week and most expected Conway to run away with the title after beating both North Little Rock and Har-Ber in the state tournament. Fayetteville was not gong to be out done, though.

The Lady Bulldogs flew under the radar most of the conference season despite tying for the 7A-West conference crown with a 13-1 record.

Fayetteville took control of the game thanks to a run that started the third quarter and saw the Lady Bulldogs grow from two point lead at intermission to a 46-31 lead with about four minutes left in the period.

The Lady Bulldogs finished the game 10-of-23 from 3-point range.
