FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – An intoxicated man burglarized a Fayetteville home on Monday evening (March 16) while thinking he was actually in Texas, police say.

Michael Emery, 32, of Fayetteville was arrested and faces charges of residential burglary, theft of property, second-degree criminal mischief, public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to jail records.

On Monday at 9:04 p.m., police were called to the 1800 block of West Kaywood Lane in response to a burglary, according to an arrest report. The caller informed authorities that they’d come home to find their house “ransacked.” They also told authorities that a man was passed out in their front yard, the report states.

Police arrived and found Emery on the front lawn, and it took several attempts to wake him up, authorities said.

The report states that even after he woke up once, he fell back asleep. Police had to assist him in sitting up because he couldn’t on his own, according to authorities.

Police also said they could smell the odor of intoxicants coming from Emery’s breath, and he was “extremely difficult” to understand. He told police he couldn’t remember how he arrived at West Kaywood Lane, according to authorities.

“Emery thought he was in Texas when he is actually in Arkansas,” the report states.

While searching Emery, police said they found a glass pipe that smelled like marijuana. Emery was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, and his first court appearance is scheduled for March 18 at 7:45 a.m., according to jail records. Those same records also state that no bond has been set for Emery.
