WINSLOW (KFSM) - Four hours after a three-year-old boy wandered out a dog door at his home, an Arkansas Game and Fish officer found the toddler three miles away from his house deep in the woods.

Officer Clay Hungate said he heard the search going on over the scanner, and joined in on the efforts. Hungate said he doesn't consider himself a hero, and released this statement:

"The search efforts were not by one person and could not have been done by only one person. Thursday night's search was a successful and happy ending due to all the area citizens and agencies who helped."

Lana Huffman lives just down Black Oak Road from where the toddler lives, and said her husband and father helped in the search. She said her first reaction was to pray.

"Wherever he was just to comfort him, comfort his parents who were devastated and panicking and pray for the people who were looking for him to find him too really quickly and they did," Huffman said.

Huffman said she has three small boys, and said she can't imagine what the family was feeling.

"You instantly panic and it's worst case scenario, you just have to find them and you're yelling and screaming while all along they think it's a game and it's terrifying," Huffman.

The toddler's parents told 5NEWS Friday afternoon (March 20) that the boy is home from the hospital and doing fine.
