FLORIDA (CBS NEWS)–A van crash in south-central Florida early Monday left at least eight people dead and sent ten more to hospitals, authorities said.
Early indications are the van was traveling east on State Road 78 in Glades County, west of West Palm Beach when it passed through a stop sign and traveled across all lanes of U.S. 27, Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Lt. Gregory Bueno said in a statement.
The van then went into a steep, partially water-filled canal off U.S. 27, Bueno said.
The van’s driver and 7 passengers were killed and the other 10 people in the van were brought to 4 area hospitals.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
