LITTLE ROCK (KTHV) - HB 1228 passed the Arkansas House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon, and it is now headed for Governor Asa Hutchinson's desk for signature.
If signed by Gov. Hutchinson, it could make Arkansas the second state to pass religious protections in 2015. He said publicly that if it made it to his desk, he would sign it.
The bill would prevent state and local governments from infringing upon someone's religious beliefs without a "compelling" interest. Opponents of the measure say it will allow widespread discrimination against gays and lesbians.
