Local Youth Golfers Make Trip To Augusta National

Two local youth golfers will play at Augusta National in the Drive, Putt, and Chip National Finals before the Masters.

SPRINGDALE (KFSM) - They'll be competing on a course so few get to play on, and they're not even in high school yet.

"It's going to feel pretty good," 13 year-old Fayetteville golfer Dongsoo Lee said. "It's going to be awesome."

"I'm really excited," 9 year-old Springdale golfer Charlie Whorton said. "I don't know how to put it in words. I'm just so excited."

Whorton and Lee will be competing in the 2015 Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals on the eve of the Masters at Augusta National. The two are among 80 other seven to 15 years-old competing.

"I had to go through the local qualifier, then the sub-regional, and then the regional qualifier," Lee said.

It's been a long journey for the two of them to make it to the finals.

"I'm an ok player. I wouldn't say I'm good. There's more people that's better than me," Whorton said.

"It wasn't so difficult at first, then at the regional it was pretty hard," Lee said.

Even though they are young, they've been golfing for years.

"Five years," Lee said
.
"Ever since I was three," Whorton said.

This may be the first of many trips to Augusta.

"I want to become a pro, and maybe even wear a green jacket one day," Lee said.
