FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)– Sixteen properties in nine counties around Arkansas will be considered for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places this month.
The state Review Board of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program will meet this morning (April 1) to consider the properties.
In Fayetteville, Fire Department #1 on West Center Street, and Fire Department #2 on Black Oak Road have both been nominated.
5NEWS spoke with Fayetteville Fire Department Captain Shawn Shelton about this honor. Shelton says, “We have a lot of fun working here at Station #1 and there’s a lot of history in this building.. A lot of good stories when guys come back after retiring who remember the building when it was newer.” He adds, “It’s going to be a neat thing having an old history like that for the City of Fayetteville.”
The David and Margaret Durst House has also been nominated for the city of Fayetteville.
In Prairie Grove, two buildings will also be receiving the honor of being considered for the National Register.
The Prairie Grove Airlight Outdoor Telephone Booth, and the Historic Section of the Prairie Grove Cemetery.
