VAN BUREN (KFSM) -- A 13-year-old is dead after being struck by a vehicle Saturday (April 11) evening in Van Buren.

The accident happened in the 800 Block of North 28th Street in Van Buren, police said.

They said a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old were both struck by the vehicle and taken to Children's Hospital in Little Rock. The 13-year-old later died from injuries.

The 15-year-old was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but as of April 13 was recovering and no longer in critical condition, police said. The teen is still in the hospital.

Police aren't releasing any names at this time. No word on if the driver who hit the two teens will face any charges.

Holly Nauman is a friend of the 13-year-old who died, and said people are planning to wear purple at Butterfield Trail Middle School on Monday (April 13). Nauman made a memorial for her friend.

"I got purple flowers, because purple is her favorite color. I put the purple flowers out there, a purple cross, and some of the flowers are different colors, but I tried to make it all purple," Nauman said.

The accident is still being investigation, but preliminary findings show no evidence of texting and driving, according to police.
