Hogs Continue Spring Improvements

The Arkansas football team continues improvements with one week left of spring practice.

FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - With just a week left of spring football, Arkansas coach Bret Bielema couldn't be happier with the Razorbacks.

"Can't tell you just how much I enjoy being around these guys," Bielema said. "I think they practice very hard."

It's not just the team who's had a great start, it's all the new additions to the coaching staff that's helping.

"Those three guys I hired in general have been home run hits," Bielema said.

Brandon Allen continues to impress at quarterback, and the battle for the number two spot continues to grow between Austin Allen and Reaf Peavy.

"I would say just off the top of my head, I think Austin right there at the end of the two minute drills throwing the ball extremely well. I don't know how much he's ahead of Reaf because Reaf is doing some real nice things," Bielema said.

On the other side of the ball, the Hogs are doing good as well making some big plays in today's scrimmage.

"Defensively doing some good things as well. We got to take advantage of every teaching moment. We don't have a lot of big name guys, but I thought they played really really smart. They're communicating very well," Bielema said.

Next week will be the big test though.

"Because I've got so many new coaches, we're going to try to handle the first half especially just as we would in our opener as far as coaches on the sidelines, communications and calls. In the first half we'll run a 12 minute quarter. We'll stop the clock and the referees will be out there, SEC officials. It will be officiated just like it would any other game," Bielema said.

The spring Red and White game is set for 1 p.m. April 25th at Razorback Stadium.
