FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)- Some of the world’s best cyclists have arrived in Northwest Arkansas to take part in the annual Joe Martin Stage Race.

"The eyeballs of the cycling world are on Fayetteville, Arkansas this weekend," said Race Director Bruce Dunn.

Dunn said the race attracts cyclists from around the globe.

"[There are] 20 countries represented this year,” Dunn said. “Teams [are] coming from Argentina, Mexico, Canada, and obviously across the U.S.”

Tess Senty is part of a cycling team from Pennsylvania and has been training all winter.

"A lot of people don't actually realize how team-oriented cycling is," Senty said. "The whole goal is to get the team leader in the best possible place that they can get, then we can win the whole race.”

Another member of the team, Duncan Oliver, said they arrived in Arkansas on Wednesday (April 22). Oliver said the team made sure to scout the region before coming to the race.

"We've been looking at maps, aerial maps, just to see the road make up, and get a feel for the area," Oliver said.

There will be several races happening around the Northwest Arkansas area through Sunday. The race kicks off with time trials on Thursday (April 23).
