FORT SMITH (KFSM)- A sorority from the University of Arkansas- Fort Smith hosted the annual Anchor Splash on Saturday (April 25).

Six teams of up to six UAFS students participated in the event held at the Mercy Fitness Center. The Anchor Splash consisted of swimming races, relays and a synchronized swimming event. Teams were judged on their times and creativity. A cookout took place afterwards in the parking lot.

5NEWS This Morning anchors Heather Lewis and Jay Plyburn judged the synchronized swimming portion of the competition.

Proceeds raised from the event all go to benefit Delta Gamma’s philanthropy Service for Sight.

“Delta Gamma’s philanthropy, Service For Sight, encompasses many different aspects of helping the visually impaired and blind, including four schools founded by Delta Gammas,” Allie Wilson, VP Foundation said. “These schools teach specialized skills to visually impaired and blind individuals around the US. Anchor Splash is a fun event and lots of energy; however, at the end of the day it’s about the true joy that comes from making a positive impact in someone’s life.”

The sorority had a goal of raising $2,500 for the charity. In the fall, Delta Gamma will host a basketball tournament, called the Anchor Slam.
