FORT SMITH (KFSM) - Fort Smith voters will cast their ballots
on May 12th deciding if five percent of an annual once-cent sales tax
should go towards building 35 miles of biking and walking trails. But both supporters and opponents want to make sure their positions get heard to sway voters. In a "5NEWS This Morning" segment that aired Saturday (April 26), anchor Daren Bobb spoke to Fort Smith Mayor Sandy Sanders about this ballot.

Sanders tells 5NEWS the trail system will allow the city to keep young people in town. He also addresses critics who say Fort Smith doesn't do what Northwest Arkansas cities do, claiming that this trail will be a start. Last week, Daren spoke to Jerry Fleming of the group "Save Our Streets Fort Smith." He says he opposes this re-allocation of funds because the city has yet to fix its sewage system problems.
