FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - A local martial arts business is offering free self defense class for realtors, after a female Fayetteville realtor narrowly escaped being kidnapped Friday (April 24) morning.
According to police, 25-year-old Amilya Barcenas is facing charges of kidnapping, aggravated robbery and criminal mischief after she pointed a gun at a realtor at a showing and told her to zip-tie herself.
Local Krav Maga instructor Marty Cale said after the kidnapping and killing of Little Rock realtor Beverly Carter last year, they started offering a program tailored to realtors.
Cale said they teach realistic self defense, like how to get away from someone with a weapon and how to get out of duct tape.
"If the situation looks odd, feels odd, ask for help, don't be shy you know if you're leaving work and it feels odd you know ask somebody to walk you out to your car, if you're a realtor and you're inside the house and you're waiting on somebody the situation feels weird just turn around and walk out the door, tell them you've got to make a phone call, call for help," Cale said.
Cale said they offer self-defense classes in the evenings Monday-Friday. For more information, click here.
