Police: Man Involved In Stabbing Incident Escaped Fort Smith Hospital

FORT SMITH (KFSM) – A man involved in a stabbing incident on Sunday (April 26) escaped from a Fort Smith hospital after police say he was supposed to be held on suspicion of a parole violation.

Cameron Smith, 38, was stabbed 10 times outside El Azteca at 917 N. A St. around 3 a.m. on Sunday morning, according to a news release. Smith was taken to Sparks Hospital, police said.

While there, Smith said he was attacked by a black suspect who got out of a white Cadillac and started wrestling with him, stabbing Smith during the fight, the release states.

Police identified the suspect as Christopher Palmer, 31, of Little Rock, according to the release.

Police learned that Smith had a warrant out for a parole violation and ordered a hold be placed on him with security staff at Sparks Regional Medical Center, authorities said. Late on Sunday, officers learned that Smith had gone outside to smoke and did not return, the release states. He now faces potential escape charges, according to authorities.

Police are searching for Smith and Palmer.
