CRAWFORD COUNTY (KFSM) – Crews are set to break ground on the $20 million Crawford County Detention Center Friday morning (May 1).
Crawford County Sheriff Ron Brown said the new jail is needed to fix overcrowding problems at the current facility. This, after it failed several state inspections and was placed on probation by the state.
Once it’s built, the new detention center will house 300 inmates and feature a courtroom.
The groundbreaking ceremony begins at 11 a.m. Friday at the site of the new jail. Sheriff Ron Brown, County Judge John Hall and other area leaders are expected to speak at the event.
The new Crawford County Detention Center is expected to open in 2016.
