Ricky May Named New Waldron Coach

Longtime Booneville assistant takes over struggling Bulldogs’ program

WALDRON (KFSM) – It didn’t take long for the Waldron administration to find a new football coach. In fact, it took just one call.

Longtime Booneville assistant Ricky May was named the Bulldogs new coach Thursday (April 30) after school board approval.

“They called me Monday and asked if I was interested,” May said. “They made it real enticing. Both of my boys have now graduated and it was an opportunity they wouldn’t let me pass up.”

May’s two sons, Bryson (class of 2015) and Brock (class of 2011), both excelled for the Bearcats.

May replaces Dale Mann who resigned last week.

May was the defensive coordinator at Booneville as the Bearcats totaled 27 wins over the past two seasons, including a 4A state championship in 2013.

“It starts with attitude first,” May said. “We don’t size any one out but we didn’t at Booneville either. We just out worked everyone. That is what we are going to have to do.”

May began his coaching career at Waldron in 1996 and spent five seasons as an assistant before taking a coaching job at Booneville.

Waldron has lost 37 consecutive games and has totaled just nine wins since the end of the 2005 season.
