VAN BUREN (KFSM) - We have new information about an accident on Interstate 40 that left one man dead and sent his wife to the hospital Sunday (May3) night.

Arkansas State Police said 39-year-old David Seth and 39-year-old Rebecca Seth were trying to walk across the interstate in Van Buren, near mile marker six,  with their two children, ages 11 and 12, when the husband and wife were hit by three different vehicles.

"He saw his dad go flying over the top of the car then he saw another car run over his dad and then a car ran over his mom," said David's mother Sue Parks. "He was my first born son. If I ever needed anything he was right there."

An accident report from Arkansas State Police states the couple was first hit by a Toyota Corolla. David was then hit by a Chevy Camaro and dragged several hundred feet. Rebecca was hit a second time by a Jeep, according to the report.

Rebecca was taken to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith to be treated for a broken leg and a broken arm. A relative tells 5NEWS Rebecca had surgery for her injuries Sunday night and was in critical condition on a ventilator. She was taken off the ventilator on Tuesday (May 5), according to the Seth family.

David Seth was pronounced dead on the scene.

"Our car has broken down we have no way of driving so he was walking home but his daughter is afraid of the dark so he decided he was going to make a short cut," Parks said.

Neither of the kids were injured in the accident and are currently staying with their aunt.

Troopers say all three drivers pulled over, but it's unclear at this time if any of them were cited. The driver of the first vehicle to hit the couple was injured, according to the accident report from Arkansas State Police.

David's family is seeking funds to help with funeral costs. A savings account has been set up in his name at First Bank in Van Buren.

His funeral have been scheduled for May 8 at 2 p.m. in Hartford, the family said.
