WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) - The recent rainfall has water levels at Devil's Den State Park just above normal.

During the storms over the weekend water rose more than two feet at the park, according to Park Superintendent Monte Fuller. He said they opened the floodgates this week to discharge excess water.

"Over the weekend it got to where it was about two feet above where it is now, so it was substantially higher," he said. "We do have the floodgates open on our small lake and that's helping us somewhat get the water downstream."

Fuller said his staff will keep an eye on the weather this week to make sure guests are aware of the conditions.

"As a staff we will monitor the creek levels," he said. "We will monitor the radar and we will relay information to the guests as they come in."

Fuller said he urges campers to be prepared for the weather conditions.

"Bring proper clothing, pay attention to where you place your tents, pay attention to where you are parked and don't walk across a creek that's obviously above overflow," he said.

The last time Devil's Den State Park was closed due to flooding was in 2011.
