Pea Ridge Rallies For 4A North Crown

Blackhawks’ bats come to life in five run fifth inning

DOVER (KFSM) - Pea Ridge hadn't seen much adversity this season as they won 22 of their first 26 games heading into Tuesday's 4A North regional title game but the Blackhawks found themselves down in the fifth inning.

Ozark led 2-1 but that's when the Blackhawks' bats came to life.

"We faced (Ozark starting pitcher) Cole (Yell) back a few weeks ago and he did a very good job against us and it took us three or four innings before we got on him today," Pea Ridge coach John King said. " I thought he did a good job but the second time around our kids made some adjustments and came through."

"I think the first couple innings we weren’t quite around on him," Pea Ridge senior Seth Brumley said. "We were getting under it and popping it up, then toward the end we started getting a solid bat on the ball and making good contact and putting it and putting it in the holes where it needed to be."

With it taking a few innings to get the offense working, Pea Ridge relied on Zaine Holley to carry the load on the mound. Even though it's a spot he's not used to.

"Zaine has started one or two games for us this year, a sophomore," King said. "He’s been in some tough situations for us throughout the year, even though he had not started and he came in and did six solid innings for us today."

The 5-3 win over Ozark not only secured the 4A North championship but gave the Blackhawks a bye in the first round of this week's state tournament in Gosnell.
