BOSTON (CBS) - Harvard Medical School researchers suggest getting a dog to help you stay healthy.

Research shows dog owners are more likely to get the two and a half hours of exercise each week that experts recommend. Dogs can reduce blood pressure, help owners lose weight, and maintain a body mass index.

According to experts, if you're not active and thinking about getting a dog, start slow. Try to walk 10 minutes a day a few days a week to build up to more walking time with your pooch.
