FORT SMITH (KFSM) – Fort Smith police arrested a man on May 20 wanted on suspicion of credit card fraud after local media ran the suspect’s photograph and surveillance footage, according to a news release.
John Root, 37, of Ozark was booked into the Sebastian County Detention Center and faces charges of breaking or entering, fraudulent use of a credit card and failure to appear, the release states.
Root is accused of going to the Elite 24 Health Club at 1200 S. Waldron Rd. on April 25, getting a one day pass and stealing keys to a vehicle while he was at the club, police said. The victim whose keys were stolen also reported multiple items taken from his vehicle.
Authorities said on that same day Root also went to the Fort Smith Athletic Club at 5400 Gary St., stole a man’s keys, used them to get into the man’s truck and took his wallet (which contained debit and credit cards). The suspect then used those cards fraudulently at the Walmart on Rogers Avenue, according to the release.
