FORT SMITH (KFSM) - A week before the summer season officially starts, a party will be thrown at Chaffee Crossing aimed at building a memorial to honor veterans.  For a "5NEWS This Morning" segment that aired Saturday (May 23), anchor Jay Plyburn sat with Ivy Owen of the Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority.

Owen described the event as an old fashioned, crowd pleasing party to benefit the Chaffee Crossing Historic District. He said the money raised will go towards funding the Chaffee Veterans Memorial Plaza. Three local bands will play at this event.

The "Summer Block Party" is scheduled for Saturday, June 13th running from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Admission cost $10 for adults, while children 12 and under pay $5.
