(KFSM)- The area is currently under a Flash Flood Warning. 5NEWS is keeping an eye on the roads.

Here’s what local dispatchers are reporting:

  • Benton County: Occasional flooding; very few reports, but that may change later in the day as rain comes in from Oklahoma. Buttermilk Springs off Gordon Hollow were impassable at 7 a.m., as was Fairmount east of Siloam Springs. Dispatchers said that may have changed by this point in the day, but they urge drivers to be cautious if headed that way.
  • Washington County: 
    • Kinzer Road in the southwest part of the county is impassable.
    • Sugar Hill Cutoff is flooded and impassable.
    • U.S. Highway 59/62 intersection is flooded, but still passable.
    • Goose Creek has flooding and had a tree down, but is still passable. The sheriff’s office warns conditions can change quickly, so turn around if you’re unsure.
    • Ball Street in Johnson is flooded and impassable.
    • Springston Ford is flooded and impassable.
    • A tree was blocking the entire road on Durham, 1/4 mile from Hwy. 16; the road department responded around noon Sunday.
  • Sebastian County:
    • Arkansas State Police confirmed a one-vehicle accident happened on I-40 East, near Exit 7 in Fort Smith around 9:30 a.m. Sunday (May 24). No injuries were reported. Troopers said it was likely caused by high levels of water on the road.
    • Sebastian County dispatchers tell 5NEWS sections Highway 71 in Willis and Mansfield are closed.
  • Crawford County:
    • Dispatcher said the bottoms of Sharp Chapel near Alma are closed.
    • Gun Club Road south of Van Buren is closed.
    • Hollis Lake Road south of Van Buren is closed
    • Orrick Road by the Sewer Ponds near Alma is closed.
    • Thorn and Elm Street in Kibler is closed.
    • The Lowater bridge by Samstone Drive on Pevehouse Road in Van Buren is closed.
    • Highway 282 at Grotto Hole north of Alma is closed.
    • Lancaster Low water Bridge in Rudy is closed.
  • Sequoyah County: Sheriff Ron Lockhart said Indian Road traveling from Paradise Hill (Fin and Feather) on Lake Tenkiller to Cookson, Okla., has been closed. He said one mile into Sequoyah County from Cherokee County, a culvert has washed out, causing the road to be impassable.  He said this road will be closed until further notice.
  • LeFlore County- Undersheriff Kendall Morgan said authorities are watching the Wister Dam in the Wister area as well as the Poteau River, which is very flooded.
    • U.S. Highway 270 at Wister Lake is closed due to high water, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
    • State Highway 82 North of Talihina is also closed due to high water, according to OHP.

Derek Waters, a Fort Smith Firefighter is urging drivers keep an eye out for flooded areas and other hazards the rest of the holiday weekend.

“If you see water coming over the streets, don’t even attempt it because you never know how deep that actually is gonna be, and definitely low water bridges, I know there’s some here in the area, don’t attempt that if water’s coming over them because that’ll rush right over it and sweep you right out into it,” he said.
