FORT SMITH (KFSM)- Severe weather slammed Fort Smith Monday (May 25) and even forced people to evacuate their homes.

Riverlyn Dr. is right on the Arkansas River, it was blocked off to only people who lived nearby. The road had a lot of flooding and many people left the area.

“Our neighbors have canoes ready to go,” said Christina Cline.

'We've lived here for eight years and this is by far the worse of the flooding that we've seen," Richard Turner said.

Fort Smith police are monitoring the road hourly.

Anyone who drives around the blockade could be ticketed, officers said.
