FORT SMITH (KFSM)- The Fort Smith Police Department is searching for two armed robbery suspects, according to a media release sent on Thursday (May 28).

On May 23, at approximately 2:37 p.m., Fort Smith police officers responded to the Family Dollar on Grand Avenue where employees said two black men came into the store brandishing a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money, the release states.

During the robbery, two customers entered the store and were forced to the ground at gunpoint, according to the release. One of the suspects, who was dressed in all black, then fired two rounds in the direction of a Hispanic customer who didn’t immediately comply with the suspect’s demands, the release states. No one was injured during the incident.

After taking an undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise, both suspects fled on foot towards the east side of the building, according to the release.

The vehicle in the surveillance photos is a white, four-door passenger car, that circled the business during the robbery, the release states. It’s described as a late ’90s to early 2000s model Kia Optima with dark tinted windows and appears to be missing the front bumper.

The Fort Smith Police Department is seeking to identify the men and locate the vehicle caught on surveillance cameras, according to the release.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call FSPD at (479) 709-5100 or 78-CRIME.

Officers did arrest another suspect in connection to the robbery. While interviewing employees and reviewing surveillance footage, a man later identified as Donovan Cortez Cobbs, 23, came into the Family Dollar minutes before the robbery, the release states.

Cobbs, who was a passenger in the Kia Optima, walked the perimeter of the store and left without making a purchase, according to the release. He left in the vehicle and moments later the robbery suspects ran into the store, the release states.

Police arrested Cobbs Tuesday (May 26) on two unrelated warrants and on suspicion of aggravated robbery, according to the release. He’s being held at the Sebastian County Detention Center without bond, the release states.
