Razorbacks Win NCAA Regional Opener

The Hogs used a big sixth inning to secure the win over Oral Roberts. They will play the winner of Oklahoma State/St John’s tomorrow at 6 p.m.

Stillwater, Okla. (KFSM)-The Arkansas baseball team opened the Stillwater Regional with an 8-6 come-from-behind victory over Oral Roberts Friday afternoon.

No. 2 Arkansas advances to the winner’s bracket and will play on Saturday at 6 p.m. against the winner of the Oklahoma State/St. John’s game.

Trailing 3-2, Arkansas scored four runs to take a 6-3 lead after six innings.

Joe Serrano and Bobby Wernes opened the inning with back-to-back singles. National Player of the Year Andrew Benintendi, who struggled in the SEC Tournmanet batted both in with a double, giving the Razorbacks their first lead of the game.

Tyler Spoon and Rick Nomura also drove in runs in the sixth.

Clark Eagan added a two-run triple in the eighth to extend the Razorback lead to 8-3, a hit that would later become important.

Oral Roberts cut the lead to 8-6 with two outs in the ninth on a three-run home run, but the Hogs ended the game on the next batter.

Jackson Lowery and Zach Jackson both pitched in relief, combining for three scoreless innings. Lowery retired the first six hitters he faced and picked up his seventh win of the season.

Arkansas has now won five of its past seven NCAA Regional openers.
