WALDRON (KFSM)- A Scott County Detention Center jailer was terminated after investigators said he admitted he had smuggled contraband into the facility, according to a statement released by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office Monday (June 1).
The investigation began May 23 following suspicious activity between detainees and jailer Kyle Combs, 20, the release states.
Combs was observed speaking to a detainee while the detainee was on the phone with a family member, then a short time later that detainee’s family member was observed at Combs’ vehicle, according to the release. When Combs reentered the jail he was confronted by an investigator who discovered Combs had a letter related to smuggling contraband into the facility, the release states.
Upon questioning, Combs admitted to bringing in tobacco products to inmates on several occasions in the past, according to the release.
Combs has been terminated and is facing a charge of furnishing a prohibited article, the release states.
“A violation of the law by a member of this agency is a violation of the public’s trust,” Scott County Sheriff Terry Staggs states in the release. “And any instances of misconduct will be aggressively investigated and, when appropriate, prosecuted.”
Combs has been released on bond, jail records show.
