FAYETTEVILLE- (KFSM)- The largest crowd in Baum Stadium history had a lot to cheer about Friday afternoon. Arkansas beat Missouri State 18-4 in the first game of the NCAA Super Regional at Baum Stadium in front of a record crowd (for actual attendance) 11,869.
Hitless through three innings and trailing 1-0, the Razorbacks exploded in the fourth inning. Joe Serrano led off the inning with a double and that sparked three runs for Arkansas in the frame. Leading 7-1, Serrano added a three-run home run in the sixth inning to officially bust the game open 10-1.
Serrano led all Razorbacks going 3-4 with four RBIs. Clark Eagan also had four RBIs on two hits. Tyler Spoon added three RBIs on two hits. All nine starting batters got a hit for the Razorbacks.
The 18 runs were the most allowed by Missouri State this year by eight runs. Starting pitcher Jon Harris came into the game with a 1.78 ERA and retired his first nine batters, but the Hogs finished him off with eight runs and nine hits in a little more than five innings of work.
Arkansas starter Trey Killan earned the win and pitched six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits.
Game two is Saturday at 1:05p.m. on ESPN2. Arkansas only needs to win one of the two remaining games to move on to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
