LOWELL (KFSM) -- Construction crews are working on the Highway 264 bridge from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. this week, until Friday (June 19). Crews are installing structural beams over the length of the interstate. Once those beams are in place, the bridge should have more support and strength to be able to handle a large amount of traffic, according to crews.

Crews at work are shutting down traffic in the area as part of the widening of I-49 in Northwest Arkansas. There will be a detour which will funnel the two lanes of traffic on I-49 to Exit 78. This will take place on the overnight hours when there is less traffic on the interstate according to  Assistant Public Information Officer, Danny Straessle.

"We do this in the off peak hours so that it's a minimal interruption to traffic. So it doesn't impact the morning commute. It only impacts those who travel this corridor overnight."

In the case of inclement weather, like heavy rain, wind or lightening, construction will be delayed.
