ROGERS (KFSM) - A new $2.3 million fire station in Rogers is expected to improve response times in the city.
The fire station is located at 1800 W New Hope Rd. in Rogers. It's replacing the old Station 2 on 17th Street, which was built in 1972.
"We estimate that it's going to save somewhere between 30 and 35 seconds for every call they go on," said Fire Chief Tom Jenkins, with the Rogers Fire Department.
Jenkins said the department outgrew the old facility. The new station is two stories with three bays, a workout area and living space. The fire chief said the station was built for the department's needs in the future.
"The facility that we're moving into has plenty of room not only for the crews we have today, but it's a fire station that will last us just like the last facility," he said. "The cheapest way for us to build this station is to build it adequately sized for what we foresee it could be used for in the next 50 years."
A grand opening ceremony for the fire station will be held at 1:30 p.m. June 30. The fire chief said the public is invited to attend.
