FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- A driver is hospitalized after an accident caused by wet roads in Fort Smith.

First responders said Michael Sallee suffered neck, back and shoulder injuries after he struck a pole at the intersection of Rogers Avenue and North 21st Street.

Sallee was taken to Sparks Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Fort Smith Dispatch said the call came in around 3 a.m. Officers on scene told 5NEWS that the driver said that he tried to stop at the stoplight at the intersection, but his car accelerated instead.

The driver barely missed a business, coming to a stop along a brick wall.

Officers on the scene said the man's car had a mechanical failure following the loss of traction due to the wet roads.

First responders said the driver is expected to be okay.

Fort Smith Police do not believe that Sallee was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.
