FORT SMITH (KFSM) – Eleven individuals involved in a drug trafficking organization were sentenced to a combined total of more than 46 years, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas Conner Eldridge.

In November 2013, agents with the Drug Enforcement Agency learned that large quantities of methamphetamine were being distributed out of Fort Smith by a multi-state drug trafficking organization, according to court records.

During the investigation, agents made more than 10 controlled buys and executed at least five search warrants, Eldridge said. In total, nine pounds of meth were seized.

This resulted in the arrest and conviction of each individual listed below:

  • William Alexander, 33, of Fort Smith – 210 months
  • Randall Jernigan, 31, of Fort Smith – 84
  • Bobby Chanthavong, 32, of Fort Smith – 37 months
  • Blake Wright, 28, of Van Buren – 24 months
  • Gary Rogers, 29, of Huntington – 21 months
  • Gentry Rainwater, 55, of Fort Smith – 57 months
  • Kevin Hatley, 35, of Fort Smith – 33 months
  • Joshua Russell, 30, of Jonesboro – 21 months
  • Larry Batt, 32, of Fort Smith – 21 months
  • Theresa Thompson, 51, of Fort Smith – 15 months
  • Rosa Sharon, 50, of Fort Smith – 37 months

U.S. Attorney Eldridge commented, “These defendants brought a significant amount of methamphetamine into the western district of Arkansas where they sold and distributed it into our communities.  The drug trafficking organization responsible has now been dismantled, and its members have been held responsible for their actions.”
