FORT SMITH (KFSM)- Fireworks stands are going up in the River Valley and Northwest Arkansas ahead of Fourth of July.

Angela Crook has been selling fireworks in Fort Smith for the past five years.

“Some of the hottest items this year are, we've got some new ones in called our little frogs and our little tortoises," she said.

She is also expecting a lot of visitors.

“Our parking lot will have 30 to 40 cars at all times,” Crook said.

She said most of her customers buy in bulk and some will spend as much $2,500 to put on a show.

Ty Sharp in Lowell was already open for business Monday (June 22).

“It's fun," he said. "I mean, you get a whole group of people together and start blowing stuff up."

But both fireworks stand owners said safety should still be above all else.

“It's important to have a fire extinguisher,” Crook said. “It's important to have adults with children that are doing it. It's important that adults light the fireworks. You have to do it on the flat surface, flat, concrete surface. Don't do it around a bunch of trees.”

And with the Fourth of July falling on a Saturday this year, Crook said it makes it that much more exciting.

“We have enough to fill this tent three times over, so we have a lot of fireworks,” Crook said.

Crook says she plans to officially open up her fireworks tent in Fort Smith Tuesday (June 23).
