Spoon has been the face of the Razorback program the last three years, playing in 189 games. He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 35th round.

FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)- Arkansas junior outfielder Tyler Spoon has officially signed with the Boston Red Sox after being selected in the 35th round of the MLB Draft last month.

"We knew that he would make the right decision and we kind of knew where his heart was from the beginning," his mother, Robbie, said. "He's had a great four years at Arkansas, and we will miss that greatly! But we knew -- he's ready to take the next step and start his new job!"

Spoon has been the face of the Razorback program the last three years, playing in 189 games.

The Van Buren native hit .327 during the 2015 season, recording a team-best 20 doubles and adding six home runs and 54 runs batted in. Hitting behind the National Player of the Year, Spoon had career-bests in home runs, doubles, RBI and slugging percentage, while stealing 10 of 12 bases.

Spoon helped lead Arkansas back to the College World Series for the third time in seven years in 2015, going 5-for-12 in the Stillwater Regional with a home run, two doubles and four runs batted in. He collecting four more hits and four RBI in the Fayetteville Super Regional as the Razorbacks returned to Omaha for the eighth time in program history.

"Not very many kids get to go to this level, and for a Van Buren kid, that's been here his whole life -- the whole community is gonna be proud of him. They've been proud of him -- being a Razorback, being a star in high school like he was in all three sports," Randy Loyd, his high school basketball coach, said Wednesday (July 1).

Spoon graduated from the University of Arkansas in May with a degree in recreation and sports management.
