Beaver Lake hosts a wide variety of activities to beat the heat, but also some ways to teach you about our environment. This week's Adventure Arkansas takes us on a guided tour to discover the hidden parts of the lake.

If you're looking to get your feet wet for the first time with Kayaking, this week's Adventure Arkansas is just for you! Hobbs State Park offers a guided tour of some of the hidden gems nestled along Beaver Lake. Rebekah Penny, a park interpreter on the tour explains the many different discoveries you can make.

"Every adventure is going to be your own. Whether you are interested in looking for fish underneath the water or the birds flying through the trees. You can also see the beautiful geology on the lake. It's just a wonderful way to get out and explore."

Before you begin, Penny and her fellow interpreter, Melissa Vickers, walk you through safety on the water and how to paddle like a pro.  "You will be given a life vest that you will be required to wear at all times. We will go over some paddling techniques and the boats are very stable."

Vickers explains, "We go over as far as how to get in your kayak and some kayaking techniques to help you improve on your kayaking skills."

The kayaks and paddles are all provided as well. The relaxing atmosphere helps you soak in the surrounding scenery of the cove. As an added bonus amongst the cliff, you can test your spelunking skills with a cave accessible by floating.

Penny explains why these features are important, "There's a lot of Course geology hidden here in the Ozarks. Many sinking streams, caves, that hold a lot of our water. These are very fragile environments that are hidden from the general public."

In addition to leisurely learning the ropes of kayaking, there's many more guided aquatic adventures and programs you can do at Hobbs State Park this summer. "We are going to have a fishing and kayaking tour, so that's a great way to find the hidden diversity of the lake. We will be doing some snorkeling tours off the pontoon as well."

All you need to bring is a love of adventure and sunscreen.

This adventure is about $12 per person, and lasts about 2 hours.

There are still a few more times to try this month, check out dates and contact information to join in here.
