SPRINGDALE (KFSM)- Saturday night (July 4) was the last night for Rodeo of the Ozarks at Parsons Stadium in Springdale.

Rogers residents Jack and Gena Burson said they couldn't think of a better way to spend their Fourth of July evening.

"It's one of those things that's all American, the old west and the cowboys and people associated with rodeo in my mind are just all American people," Burson said.

Starting Wednesday (July 1), hundreds of people packed the arena each night to take part in the festivities. For the kids, mutton bustin' and calf wrestling were the highlights.

Connie and Shelby Clendening visited the rodeo for the first time Saturday and said it was the perfect family atmosphere.

"It gives the kids an opportunity to see what their parents grew up with in the country and it brings obviously more revenue to Springdale which is always good," Clendening said.

The highlight of the week for most rodeo-goers was the bull riding. The event brought in professional riders from all over the world, and some bull fighters. Texas native Darren Robertson is one the people facing off with the 1,000 pound animal.

"We get bumped around, banged around stay sore and bruised up a lot, but you just kind of fight through those deals and go on, broken bones are kind of part of the deal," Robertson said.

The prize money for competitors totaled $120,000. The next event at Parsons Stadium will be a professional bull riding event on August 22.
