FORT SMITH (KFSM) - A man was shot and killed while on a run in Fort Smith Saturday (July 11), according to the Fort Smith Police Department.

Police identified the victim as Brent Allen Morrison, 44. Morrison was found dead around 6:45 a.m. Saturday on Wells Lake Road in Fort Smith, police said.

Police said they arrested John Suleski, 24, in connection to the shooting. Suleski faces charges of first-degree murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm in city limits.

Suleski is a staff sergeant in the 188th Wing of the Arkansas Air National Guard, serving as a photojournalist in the public affairs office, according to Maj. Heath Allen. Suleski has been a member of the 188th for about a year, having previously served in the Marine Corps, Allen said.

The Fort Smith Police Department received a call Saturday morning of a man down in the street near Wells Lake Road. When officers arrived to the scene, they found Morrison dead with gunshot wounds, police said.

Detectives spoke with witnesses in the area and Suleski who was also on the scene, police said. At the end of the detectives' interview with Suleski, police said he was placed under arrest.

Suleski is being held at the Sebastian County Detention Center with no bond.

His first court date is set for Wednesday July 15th at 9am.
