FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - Washington County Sheriff Tim Helder is
so early in the campaign season because of what he describes as assumptions of his retirement.
In a "5NEWS This Morning" segment that aired Sunday (July 12), 5NEWS Managing Editor Larry Henry spoke to Helder about several issues, including his appointment by Gov. Asa Hutchinson to a task force on prison overcrowding and the legality of open carry.
Helder said Hutchinson is the second governor to appoint him on a task force and that he's optimistic about the panel. He also said he has instructed his deputies not to arrest people if they openly carry in Washington County. He will recognize it as a constitutional right, he said.
