FORT SMITH (KFSM)-Dianne Morrison is grieving after her husband was randomly shot and killed over the weekend out on a morning jog.

"He was just the happiest, most friendly person that ever was,” Morrison said. “He had the best sense of humor you could find.”

Morrison and her husband Brent got married in 2003. They met in 1996 while working together at the Pulaski County Assessor’s Office.

“He bought my lunch every single day for six years,” Morrison said.

Saturday morning (July 11), at about 6:30, he went out for a run at Chaffee Crossing.

“He woke me up, and said he was going for a run,” she said, “and like he would always do when he`d go, gave me a kiss, and said love you, I said `be careful I`ll see you later’.”

That was the last time Dianne saw her husband. Police found him shot to death on Wells Lake Road. Officers said John Suleski parked his vehicle in the area to kill himself, but instead fired his .22 rifle at Morrison as he ran by.

“I see he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but if you`re gonna kill yourself, kill yourself, not an innocent person running by doing what they enjoy, not bothering anybody,” Morrison said.

Dianne said Brent was an avid runner and biker who loved living in Fort Smith. They just moved to the area two years ago.

“Never would I imagine that something this horrible would happen here in a place where people run every day,” Morrison said. “He was just the most non-violent, most sweet lovable person ever. I just want everybody to know that, and he loved living in Fort Smith. He was so looking forward to having more trails to run on.”

Morrsion's funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday (July 17) at Edwards Funeral Home. A memorial run and walk will take place Saturday (July 18) at 6:30 a.m. Participants are asked to meet at the Wells Lake parking lot. Morrison said she wants to make the event an annual thing because her husband was passionate about expanding the city’s trail system. She said future events will help raise money for that goal.

Dianne Morrison’s friends have set up a GoFundMe account to help cover the funeral expenses.
